Dr Julia Eckl-Dorna serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Medical University of Vienna, where she leads the Vienna Airway Lab. Dr Eckl-Dorna's research centres on the immunopathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and respiratory allergies, particularly focusing on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug-exacerbated respiratory disease (N-ERD). She investigates the role of the nasal epithelium and microbiome in CRS, the connection between CRSwNP and asthma and aims to identify biomarkers predictive of therapeutic responses.
Her expertise includes controlled nasal allergen provocation, flow and mass cytometry, confocal microscopy, and next-generation sequencing for immunoglobulin repertoire analysis. With regards to respiratory allergies, her current research interest is focused on investigating sites and mechanisms of human IgE production. She actively collaborates with clinical departments to translate basic research findings into novel therapeutic approaches.
