Dr Sarah Diver is a senior clinical research fellow in the Department of Respiratory Sciences at the University of Leicester and an honorary consultant in respiratory medicine at Glenfield Hospital. Her research centres on severe asthma, with a particular interest in mechanisms beyond type 2 inflammation, such as the interplay between the host, airway microbiome, and environmental exposures.
Dr Diver has completed research in airway inflammation and clinical trials in asthma. Her publications have demonstrated how targeting upstream immune pathways can reduce airway inflammation and mucus burden, contributing to improved disease control. She has publications around the relationship between the airway microbiome and inflammation in chronic respiratory disease. In recognition of her contributions, Dr Diver received the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Impact Prize in 2025 for her research testing the benefits of a new treatment for severe asthma.
